The Children’s Foundation is supporting children who are visually impaired, helping to purchase special glasses for children with rare eye diseases and also helping to purchase prescription glasses for children from low-income families. With the help of our kind donors, we have been helping children to get prescription glasses since 2014.

Each year, there are around 130 children who need prescription glasses but whose families are not able to afford the glasses. This often happens in big families who have more than two children and where usually all the children in the family need glasses. Since these are prescription glasses, they need to be changed often, for example when the previous glasses become too small or the strength of the glasses needs to be changed. The need to change the glasses may occur several times per year.

The Children’s Foundation covers up to 90% of the cost of the prescription glasses in an amount of up to 100 euros and the remaining 10% is covered by the family themselves.

This year, the Children’s Foundation has helped 45  children who need prescription glasses: Vanessa, Anete, Matvei, Henry-Renet, Henri, Mirtel, Johann, Sulev, Juss-Mathias, Aivar, Annabel, Dmytro, Erich, Danylo, Maido, Kristella, Emma, Tony, David, Kaisa, Oskar, Marianne-Mariin, Hanna Liina, Gunnar, Jan-Erik, Iiris, Hugo, Teo, Karl, Laura, Rasmus, Karmen, Mirelle, Robyn, Viktoria, Isabella, Heleri, Liisbet, David, Raido, Tikva, Karmen, Daria, Melody and Rando.

We are also supporting children who need expensive special types of glasses due to rare eye diseases.

In 2022, we also helped to purchase a digital magnifier for Kristiar who has been diagnosed with color vision deficiency.

We have also supported the creation of audio descriptions for Estonian children’s movies and animated movies so that visually impaired children could also enjoy the world of movies.
